Summer Reading Program
Summer Library Program begins with a Kickoff Picnic on Saturday, June 20 beginning at 10am – 1 pm at the library. The weekly programs begin on June 23 and will continue every Tuesday through July 30 beginning at 2 pm. Children, parents and grandparents are all invited to enjoy crafts, reading clubs, live performances and lots of fun this summer. Look for flyers and brochures distributed through the schools and businesses in June.
Get Creative @ Your Library
2009 Summer Library Program
Join us this summer as we explore the theme, “Get Creative @ Your Library,” through programs, books and activities as the Lester Public Library of Rome. The 2009 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool age through middle school ages, and adults. The library will have weekly crafts, prize drawings, trivia contests, public performances, and more. Here is a preview of the scheduled programs:
Saturday, June 20 – 10am to 1 pm Kickoff Picnic fun, food & games.
Tuesday, June 23 – 2:00 pm – The Magic of Rick Allen
Thursday, June 25 – 6:00 pm – TeensRead@ the library (must be 13 or older to join)
Tuesday, June 30 – 2:00 pm – Musician/Storyteller David Dall
Thursday, July 2 – 6:00 pm - TeensRead@ the library (must be 13 or older to join)
Tuesday, July 7 – 2:00 pm – “The Soda Pups,” dogs demonstrating agility, obedience and audience participation. Pups named after soft drinks (Squirt, RC, Dr. Pepper, Sierra Mist and Mellow Yellow) dressed in costume.
Thursday, July 9 – 6:00 pm - TeensRead@ the library (must be 13 or older to join)
Tuesday, July 14 – 2:00 pm – Let’s Get Creative with Puppets, Lucy Freeman, ventriloquist/ puppeteer. Held at the Gazebo in the Rome Business Park.
Thursday, July 16 – 6:00 pm - TeensRead@ the library (must be 13 or older to join)
Tuesday, July 21 – 2:00 pm – Fun with Frogs, Randy Korb educational and live animal handling.
Thursday, July 23, 6:00 pm - TeensRead@ the library (must be 13 or older to join)
Tuesday, July 28 - 2:00 pm – Reading Awards Day & Party held at the Rome Town hall
We invite families and visiting friends in the Rome area to attend any of the programs planned for this summer’s reading fun. The library welcomes children of all abilities. If special accommodations are requested please contact the library two weeks in advance at 715-325-8990.
Registration for the Summer Library Program begins on June 23 at our first performance. All programs are free of charge and are held at the Rome Municipal Building and at the Gazebo in the Business Park.
