Memory Cafe

Join us at the library for our Memory Café. This is a social gathering  where individuals with memory loss, mild cognitive impairment, early Alzheimer’s, or other dementias can come together. Family and friends are encouraged to join. We’ll meet once a month so you can visit, share common interests, and enjoy refreshments. Each monthly café is unique and offers a program or activity that’s stimulating and fun. Activities will be chosen by participants, depending on interests.

Movies for Grown-Ups: 39 Steps

The final Alfred Hitchcock movie sets place in London. While on vacation, Canadian Richard Hannay (Robert Donat) becomes embroiled in an international spy ring related to the mysterious "39 steps." Then he meets agent Annabella Smith (Lucie Mannheim), who is soon killed in his apartment. He must elude the police, who are hunting him for murder, while he tries to stop Professor Jordan (Godfrey Tearle) from sending secrets out of the country. Hannay is assisted by Pamela (Madeleine Carroll), an unwilling accomplice who discovers the truth. Bring you snacks and enjoy.

 

 

Movies for Grown-Ups: The Lady Vanishes

The third movie in our Hitchcock classic has a train headed for England when a group of travelers is delayed by an avalanche. Holed up in a hotel in a fictional European country, young Iris (Margaret Lockwood) befriends elderly Miss Froy (Dame May Whitty). When the train resumes, Iris suffers a bout of unconsciousness and wakes to find the old woman has disappeared. The other passengers ominoulsy deny Miss Froy ever existed, so Iris begins to investigate with another traveler (Michael Redgrave) and, as the pair sleuth, romantic sparks fly. Bring your snacks and some friends.

 

Movies for Grown-Ups: The Man Who Knew Too Much

We are continuing to show movies by Alfred Hitchcock. In this thriller, Dr. Ben McKenna (James Stewart) is on vacation with his wife (Doris Day) and son in Morocco when a chance encounter with a stranger sets their trip, and their lives, on a drastically different course. The stranger, killed in front of the family in the marketplace, reveals an assissination plot to the Americans. The couple's son is abducted in order to ensure the plot is kept secret, and suddenly the mother and father, with no help from the police, must figure out a way to get their child back.

This month we are featuring movies by Alfred Hitchcock. This classic suspense film finds ad executive Roger O. Thornhill (Cary Grant) pursued by ruthless spy Phillip Vandamm (James Mason) after Thornhill is mistaken for a government agent. Hunted relentlessly by Vandamm's associates, the harried Thornhill ends up on a cross-country journey, meeting the beautiful and mysterious Eve Kendall (Eve Marie Saint) along the way. Soon Vandamm's henchmen close in on Thornhill, resulting in a number of iconic action sequences. Bring your friends and snacks.

Spring Kids Craft

Spring into the library for some fun crafts push away winter. Have some fun making a llama, hedgehog or butterfly to take home. This program is free to the public and all materials will be provided. All ages are welcome to participate.

Garden Seminars presented by Master Gardeners

The library and Master Gardeners have teamed up to offer a new program at the library called Garden Seminars. On the 3rd Tuesday of every month, the gardeners will discuss gardening topics such as planting, pests, environmental issues and food preservation. This program runs April through October and free is to the public. All ages are welcome and we encourage families to participate.

Come to the library and share your knowledge on knitting, crocheting or sewing with other people. If you are a beginner, the members would love to teach you something new. This program is for all ages and is free to the public. Come in, make some new friends and have fun!

St. Patricks Crafts for kids

Come down to the library and make some fun St. Patricks Day Crafts. Kids can paint a heart shamrock using toilet paper tubes or make a rainbow with a pot of gold to take home. All materials are supplied and this is free to the public. If you have questions please call 715-325-8990.
